Turners Talk 30th October 2010
SPEAK’S 50!
I am not speaking about his age but Rob Speak won the formula II Scottish round of the BriSCA50 series! Speak had a lucky escape right at the start to the race when he was clipped going down the back straight and headed towards the wall! He along with a good few others found Raymond Dick as a cushion and whilst all the reds were able to restart, Dick’s car was left battered and bruised, just like its driver! Once the race got underway Speak made his run through the field and in the end had to fend off Gordon Moodie to win
SHEVILL JNR STOPS THE RUN
Glen Heeps has been dominating the saloons of recent and it looked as if he was on his way to yet another hat trick of wins on Saturday night. Is he our secret weapon for the Superbowl? Anyway after taking two heat wins it looked as if it was going to be another hat trick only for a yellow flag to appear! After the field had closed up Stuart Shevill Jnr capitalised on the situation and caught then passed Heeps with two to go to end his run.
McDONALD JNR RETAINS
Robert McDonald Jnr went on to retain his Scottish stock rod title and whilst in the end it was an easy win during the early stages he was caught up in a four way dice for the lead. A shunt saw two of the top four drop away then Tony Lattka had his engine go sick and that was that. McDonald Jnr just drove away for what was an easy win.
SUPERBOWL
The annual running of the Superbowl draws nigh and with it the prospect of a good field of visiting drivers for the occasion. We can expect to see World Champion David Aldous in action as he looks to get his hands on the trophy whilst the defending champion Robbie Burgoyne will be out to make up the disappointment of losing his Scottish by retaining the title. But then there is Stuart Shevill Jnr looking to end his season on a high, Barry Russell, Craig and Darren Barnett and a good few more all looking for success and World ranking points.
DISCO TROPHY
The minis season ends on a high with the running of the Disco trophy and it looks as if Ross Watters is the favourite to win the race. Watters has been head and shoulders above the other drivers but when you have the likes of Kevin Morrison, Marc Fortune, Camie McGowan and Lyndsey Clyne on the grid then anything can and probably will happen!
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Hopefully if everyone turns up there should be a good field of formula II drivers over the weekend with the drivers being able to get two meetings in at one venue! There are over 20 drivers eligible for the Champion of Champions race plus the chance of other drivers getting onto the grid by winning on Saturday. Gordon Moodie will be defending his title whilst Chris Burgoyne will have the James Clarke Cochrane memorial trophy up for grabs. Incidentally the Cochrane family will be heading over from Ireland to present the trophy.
SUNDAY TREAT!
On Sunday there will be plenty of action to keep the fans and drivers busy with the saloon drivers having both the Gordon Barclay memorial trophy to contest plus the Charlene Kingston memorial trophy Then there are the prostox and they can be pretty lively so the season should end on a high note!
