Turner's Talk 13th August 2011

BURGOYNE’S MAXIMUM

Chris Burgoyne was in tremendous form at the Knockhill Trioval on Saturday night despite the continuous downpour which made visibility very difficult and a bit treacherous if you strayed off the racing line. That is one thing that Burgoyne certainly didn’t do and in both the heats he led Gordon Moodie home to make it a hat trick of wins. A stoppage during the early stages of the GN allowed Burgoyne to join the pack right at the back and once the race restarted there was to be no stopping him as he made it a clean sweep of wins.

MASCARS

The MASCARs proved to be quite a hit at both the Trioval and the Racewall and even taking in the terrible conditions the cars proved to be very quick.
Robin Bath took the final at Knockhill but at the Racewall it was ex-formula II driver Steve Dakin who came from the back of the grid to win the final.

FORMULA II SEMIS

There could be a few formula II drivers missing from the ranks on Saturday night with the World Champion semi-finals being held at Hednesford on Sunday. There are quite a few Scottish drivers on the grid with Gordon Moodie on row 2 in semi one – he has Chris Bradbury and Rob Speak ahead of him and he has George MacMillan Jnr and Robbie Dawson in his semi. In the other semi Chris Burgoyne starts from row 2 behind Barry Goldin and Andrew Palmer. Dennis Middler is on row 4, Paul Ford on row 8 whilst Graham Kelly is on row 12.
It could be that a few big hits will assist the Scots to improve their lot and it could well be that a few of the fancied runners will be looking to the consolation semi.

LIGHTNING STRIKES FOR CUNNINGHAM

Frankie Cunningham must have enjoyed his weekend’s racing in Scotland where out of his six races he won the lot!
Mind you in one of his heats he left it late before finally getting ahead of Lindsay Wilson but during Sunday afternoon’s final he made a good start and was never in any danger of being caught.

MARTIN SLIPS AWAY TO WIN THE FINAL

Siobhan Martin had a good race during the stock rod final on Sunday making a good start and then picking off those ahead until she found herself in the lead. Once there she opened up a gap and even when David Philp moved into second she never looked as if she was going to be caught as she recorded her first Racewall final win of the season.

DRIFTIN ABOUT!

The drift cars were at the Trioval and the wet and slippery conditions didn’t seem to deter them too much although there were one or two spins entering the hairpin.
Plenty of tyre smoke especially when two cars spun around a stationary car in spectacular style.
