Turner's Talk 15th October 2011
GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The formula II drivers will be heading north for the Grand National Championship including the defending champion Chris Bradbury. In fact Bradbury is going for a straight hat trick of wins!
He is going to have to beat Scottish duo Gordon Moodie and Chris Burgoyne, both having previously held the title and are both in good form at present.
Murray and Todd Jones are heading north along with Jon Palmer and superstar Jack Aldridge plus a few of the drivers from the north-east including Sam Wagner.
It has all the makings of a classic formula II encounter and along with the Racewall regular drivers in should end up as an exciting encounter.
BONNAR TAKES SCOTTISH
In conditions that were not conducive to fast non contact racing the hot rod drivers put on a good show in the wet and greasy track.
Billy Bonnar drew pole position and just romped away from the pack benefiting at the start whilst Ronnie McKenzie and Ian Donaldson scrapped over second spot. However by the time that second spot was decided Bonnar was long gone and he cruised on to an easy win.
ROLLIN, ROLLIN AW NO!
Did you hear about the Scottish formula II driver who borrowed Dennis Middler’s van to tow his car down to King’s Lynn? Well he was cruising along minding his own business when the van slowed and ground to a halt!
Seemingly Iain Borthwick had made a slight miscalculation with the dials showing a lack of diesel in the tank!
SCOTTISH SALOON CHAMPIONSHIP
The saloon drivers will be trying to grab the headlines away from the formula II drivers on Saturday night as they fight it out for their Scottish Championship.
Last year’s winner Chris Lattka has now sold his car to Kyle Irvine and may not defend his title as he again concentrates on a stock rod career!
Who is the favourite to win this year?
Well Stuart Shevill Jnr is never far away from being the favourite but then Gordon Alexander and Barry Russell are going well just now and it would be no surprise if the title ended up in one of their hands.
However Ian McLaughlin and Stuart Drobinski cannot be ruled out and if Stevie Honeyman appears, even although he will have to start from the back, he could cause all sorts of havoc should a yellow flag appear!
Bring it on lads!
PROSTOX MAYHEM
There were over 30 prostox drivers racing, many of them delayed due to problems on the Forth Bridge where there were long delays in getting to the stadium reported.
Despite this the racing was good, plenty of shunts and spills with Sandy Allan deciding to park his car with two wheels on the wall on the main straight!
We even had Siobhan Martin racing Kevin Morrison’s car and doing quite well – she must be used to contact - and picking up a third place to boot.
If the two heats had been relatively trouble free then the final made up for it with two or three pile ups in quick succession and in one there must have been at least eight cars involved on the back straight.
Still the cars continued and when Tam Melrose took his new car into the lead that was it and he romped away to a comfortable win.
