Turner's Talk 27th August 2011

KIRKALDY ON SONG!

Alan Kirkaldy was in good form at the Racewall where he went through to win the first heat, a close second to Garry Sime in heat two before scoring a decisive win in the final.
Despite having to concede a lap handicap at the start to the GN Alan came through to finish in ninth.
Och well, it’s out with the red paint again Alan!

McGOWAN’S SPECTACULAR ROLL

Arran McGowan rolled his mini in spectacular fashion on Saturday night after collecting the wall on the pit bend. The car went high in the air but landed on all four wheels with Arran luckily being able to scramble out of his car unhurt but there was sufficient damage to the car that it had to be loaded up.
In heat four there was a big shunt between Liam Rennie and Alec Cunningham resulting in both cars crashing into the pit bend wall.  Whilst Rennie managed to continue Cunningham retired.

CHAS

The hot rods, stock rods, lightning rods and prostox drivers turned up with passenger seats in their cars and promptly whisked paying fans around the track at break neck speed.
I know ‘cos they got me into Ian Donaldson’s hot rod! Gosh it was a tight fit and I should have known something was up when Gregor pulled into the layby at the end of the formula II final!
I certainly enjoyed it, the acceleration was something else and I know that Ian was trying hard as he told me he was going to scare the living daylights out of me as I was being strapped in!
The only blip on the horizon was when smoke appeared from the back of Tam Linden’s lightning rod which I am happy to say was quickly dealt with by the fire marshals before anything could have developed!

DARBY WINS SALOONS WORLD

What a saloon final down at Skegness with Eddie Darby doing a double – winning the last chance qualifying heat and then taking advantage of the yellow flags to become the 2011 World Champion. Gordon Alexander was the first Scot home – he was fourth and he had been the very last car on the grid with Barry Russell fifth.

PROSTOX SCOTTISH

The prostox Scottish Championship has all the makings of a cracking affair as is usual when they have a championship race to contest.
Pete Melrose is the defending champion and he has been going reasonably well this year and could be in with a good chance of retaining his title.
However we have Ally McDonald in good form just now whilst Grant Weston, John Mason, Tam Ross, Tam Page, Tam Taylor and Stewart Aitken will give Melrose a lot to think about.
