Turner's Talk 30th July 2011
KIRKALDY’S SCOTTISH JAUNT
Alan Kirkaldy became the Scottish formula II Champion on Saturday night in what was an action packed event. The race was stopped right away after Holly Glen and Stephen Forster tangled resulting in Glen’s car rolling and was then promptly collected by Chris Burgoyne and Gordon Moodie.
Kirkaldy moved into the lead around lap eight and then had to survive stoppages on laps 9 and 14 before having to fend off a determined challenge from George MacMillan Jnr over the closing stages.
To say that Alan was pleased was an understatement as he clambered onto his roof to celebrate!
MOODIE TAKES THE CHAPMAN TROPHY
Despite having a fraught meeting in which he saw his Scottish Championship go right at the start of the race, Moodie bounced back to win the Chapman Memorial trophy. Moodie later picked up sixth place in the GN.
McLAUGHLIN RETURNS
Ian McLaughlin made his saloon return after breaking his leg during the speedweekend in May,
Although starting from the back of the grid Ian was quickly into his stride going on to pick up fifth places in heat two as well as the final and then fourth in the Allcomers.
A WING BUT NO WHERE IT SHOULD BE!
There were a few incidents in the formula II practice session at the Racewall and in one Tom Adcroft lost his wing which came to rest on the racing line on the main straight.
Jimmy Wallace clouted the pit bend wall whilst Gregor Turner had his clutch pack up just after he had been checked at the scrutineering area!
SHEVILL’S DOUBLE
Stuart Shevill Snr made a welcome return to the saloons but quipped that it was “only because it was sunny”. Hopefully we will see more of him over the remainder of the season.
Snr went on to win the opening saloon heat whilst Jnr came out on top during the final.
KNOCKHILL FROLICS
At Knockhill during last Wednesday Alan Kirkaldy went on to win three races but lost out in the final to Gordon Moodie.
Lindsay Wilson won all three lightning rod races and Billy Bonner did likewise in the hot rods.
Alasdair Roger and Jonathan Lattka were stock rod heat winners whilst Andy Grant was the final winner.
Glen Heeps won the opening saloon race before Stuart Shevill Jnr won heat two as well as the final. The saloon races were full of action with plenty of contact, shunts and spills with a couple of drivers taking a short cut through the infield.
