SCOTTISH DELIGHT FOR CALDERWOOD
Patrick Calderwood became the Prostox Scottish Champion on Saturday night in what turned out to be a pretty destructive race. Calderwood started the race from well down the order, row 7, but thanks to five stoppages including one track blockage, in the first nine laps saw him run with the leading group. When he slipped inside Grant Weston to grab the lead he immediately came under pressure from Aly McDonald but just managed to keep daylight between them before going through to win.
Mind you there were only 7 finishers out of the 33 drivers who started out.
FORSTER BLOWS
Stephen Forster created havoc during the formula II final when crossing the start finish line his engine blew leaving an oil slick on the entrance to the pit bend. The drivers behind hit the slick with Ian Forster, Holly Glen, Ewan Ewart and John Hogg sliding into the wall with only Hogg managing to restart!
DOUBLE HAT TRICKS
Two drivers went on to win three races on the trot with Gordon Moodie and Camie McGowan the lucky drivers. Moodie won both the heats and then the final to make it three in a row but got caught up with Jimmy Wallace during the GN resulting in both ending up in the wall.
Camie on the other hand had to settle for third in heat one but after that he dominated the meeting going on to win the next three races.
TWO’S AWAY!
Chris Burgoyne and George MacMillan Jnr were down at the last Kings Lynn meeting prior to the World Final and both must have been reasonably happy with their performances.
Burgoyne got a third in his heat but retired from the final whereas MacMillan was eighth in the same heat and then finished in 10th in the final.
Garry Sime, who was at Birmingham finished in third in the semi-final, picked up an 8th in his heat and was then 6th in the final.
DISCO ROUND
The ministox drivers are back in action for the third successive week when they have another round for the Disco trophy and if it is anything like last week’s racing then there is going to be plenty of action.
Look for plenty of close racing between Camie McGowan and Liam Rennie whilst there is not much between Dale Buchan, Zak Gilmour and Gemma Russell whilst yellow graders Kyle Russell and Arran McGowan have been having their own private racing.
SALOONS
The saloon drivers will be back in action for the first time since their World Final down at Skegness where Eddie Darby came away with the title. Mind you he won the last chance qualifying race as well.
Stuart Shevill Jnr will be back looking to score as many points as he can as he sets his sights on retaining his National Points title although he has the Scottish saloon championship to contest in October with Chris Lattka the defending champion.
