Turners Talk 9th April 2011
MACMILLAN JNR’S FIRST FINAL OF THE SEASON
George MacMillan Jnr picked up his first formula II final win of the season when he won the Westfield garage sponsored final but he was
chased all the way to the finish line by Sam Wagner. Although Gordon Moodie, Chris Burgoyne and Henry King were out by the end of lap one, it didn’t make it any easier for MacMillan Jnr who was under pressure for most of the race.
A MELROSE DOUBLE
Scottish prostox champion Tam Melrose was back into winning ways on Saturday night going on to win the final and then the Grand National. Melrose had to survive a lap long oil slick, caused when Ally McDonald’s engine blew resulting in numerous cars being caught out and sliding into the wall. However on the race restart Melrose forced Gary Nicholls wide on the pit bend before going on to win the final.
NEW LIGHTNING RODS
Alan Conroy was making his lightning rod debut whilst David Glencross was having his first run of the season with the latter celebrating a double success winning a heat as well as the final. However his double success sends him looking for blue paint after just having had his car back from the signwriter.
NATIONAL AND WQR POINTS
The recent National Points show that Chris Bradbury leads from Mickey Brennan by around 90 points with john Fortune the top Scot in seventh. Gordon Moodie is eighth and other Scots in the top 30 are Chris Burgoyne, Garry Sime, George MacMillan Jnr, Marc Fortune and Robbie Dawson.
In the World Qualifying series, after two rounds and both on shale, Chris Bradbury leads from Barry Goldin with Gordon Moodie fifth and Chris Burgoyne in eighth.
WALL TO WALL BANGERS
Tonight is the annual running of the Unlimited National banger World Cup and hopefully a big turn out of cars for the occasion and bringing with them many of the top names in the banger world. These meetings normally bring massive pile ups, spins, wrecked cars and
the odd rollover and there is nothing to suggest that this season’s offering will be any different.
