Leon Stewart, affectionately known as “Donkey Kong” in the racing circuit, was born in 1979, in Kirknewton. His roots in racing run deep, with his home track being Cowdenbeath. However, his racing prowess extends beyond the track, as he works as a vehicle technician when not tearing up the raceway.

Stewart’s current formula of choice is Stockrod, where he holds the prestigious title of Scottish, British & National Points Champion. His journey in Stock Rod racing began in 2001, following a stint in Metro bangers/bangerstox.

While Stewart didn’t have a formal junior racing career, he was immersed in the racing world from an early age, thanks to his father Kenny Stewart 216 involvement in saloon racing. Watching the greats of the 80s and 90s carve up the tracks left an indelible mark on him.

Throughout his career, Stewart has amassed an impressive collection of victories and championships, including the Jane Burt Memorial, Michael Hastie Memorial, Ray Strong Memorial, Barford Track Championship, Turner Trophy, and multiple national and British championships. His crowning achievement came in the form of the European Championship in 2017, although it was marred by disqualification due to a technicality and a fall out afterwords.

However, Stewart’s racing journey hasn’t been without its challenges. A crash in 2008 left him with a broken back, but the outpouring of support from fellow drivers, staff, and spectators highlighted the camaraderie inherent in the sport.

When it comes to rivals, Stewart adopts a formidable stance, refusing to single out any particular adversary. He believes in racing hard and fast, leaving no room for quarter. Yet, his respect for his competitors is evident, acknowledging that everyone is there to be beaten.

Looking ahead, Stewart contemplates a potential switch to 1300 or 2L Hot Rod formulas once his time in Stock Rod racing is done. However, his aspirations of trying his hand in a 2L saloon are met with resistance from his wife, Claire.

In the world of racing, Leon Stewart is a force to be reckoned with, embodying skill, determination, and an unwavering passion for the sport that has defined his life.
