MOODIE THE NINTH

The Scottish Championship ended with another victory for Gordon Moodie who chalked up his ninth victory in the event.

Moodie, who started behind the Burgoyne brothers didn’t take long to get past both before setting off after the cars ahead. Liam Rennie had not long moved into the lead when he had the 7 car looming ever larger in his mirror. Once Moodie caught then overtook Rennie he eased away to win.

The win automatically enters Moodie into the National Series – for the third time this year!

STEVEN’S CHALLENGE

On Sunday the challenge was to catch the cars ahead of him and be first across the finish line and that is what Steven Burgoyne did. Starting from pole red for the FII Challenge trophy Steven made steady progress through the pack although he didn’t move into the lead until there were only four laps remaining. Once he did so he was able to ease away going on to win from his brother Chris.

That is his second trophy win in just over a year - can he add more this year?

SANTRY GOES EAST

Over the weekend Charlie Santry only failed to win in one of the races that he was entered in!

On Saturday he won his three heats, Taylor Borthwick won the other and then on Sunday he had a cracking dice with Taylor before going through to win the East of Scotland Championship in what is his last season in the Minis.

From what I hear a 2 Litre saloon will soon be out on the tracks.

JAY’S SUNDAY STROLL

Jay Paterson continues to make a name for himself in the Minis and after getting a few good results went on to win the Joan Purdie Memorial trophy race.

It didn’t take long for the yellow grader to move his car into the lead and whilst he had built up a useful lead it diminished a bit towards the end. However when the chequer appeared he was still clear of his chasers.

EURO TO STUART?

Over the two days there was some exciting and close Stock Rod racing with only minimal contact.

However in the European Final James Gray was sent spinning, collecting a marker tyre at full pelt and needed assistance out of his car. After that everything seemed to be final until towards the last few laps when Lee McGill accidently slowed the leader Raymond Harper before it kicked off.

Dean McGill went for the inside line, Harper got sideways and whilst the McGill car was first across the line he was penalised a couple of places with Stuart McKinnon getting the drive to get to the line in second place – just – and then elevated to first.

However the result is provisional pending a review of an exciting last lap.

PLENTY OF 1300 ACTION

The 1300 Saloon drivers were in good form over the weekend with plenty of action in their races. However the field was depleted after George Hendry blew his engine which caught out a few drivers.

David Bowman was a new face whilst Dale & Alan Robertson were back but a couple of booked in drivers failed to materialise with 28 drivers at the track..

Davey Rogerson and Dougie Ford rolled their cars – does Ford know that he doesn’t have to roll?

Right at the end Peter Low sent the final winner Lee Wilson crashing into the wall – spectacular but somehow he didn’t roll.

Fraser Clark top-scored but Charlie Folan, Kyle Hegg, Peter Low, Bowman and Scott Lindsell gave him a hard time of it from time to time.
